Aaahhh!! Yep, that’s a scream. I’m nervous. I’m scared. But, most of all I’m excited. Praise hands emoji.

So, what Is It?’s my first book, By Faith, and it releases on April 4th...but pre-sales start TODAY!

By Faith is my first book about the exchange of a known journey to one that says, “I don’t know where I’m going, but I trust you, God”. In our own way each of us is on an unknown journey. A journey where only God gives us turn by turn directions on His time.

But, let’s get honest, how many of us struggle with obedience or following directions?  Uh, hands lifted emoji inserted here. Don’t you ever wish sometimes you could get a LIFE road map showing you where to go and a GPS telling you how long before you get there? This girl, too!

Then By Faith was created for you!

By Faith looks at the journey of Abraham and how we, too, can live a life of obedience that requires loving our enemies (yeah, that), sharing the gospel, forgiving those who hurt us (oh, we are so going there), and battling that ugly word, sin.

My goal with By Faith is to have you follow wherever God leads you. Believe whatever God promises you. Trust wherever God tests you and share however God blesses you.  If I don’t do that, then I fail, that’s how much I believe in this book!

Read the Manual to Find the Answers

wisdomProverbs 4:5-7 - Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. You can’t understand Life until you understand the scriptures.

You can’t understand Marriage until you understand the scriptures.

It’s like buying a new car without reading the manual.  You just start pressing buttons to see what’s going to happen.

Trying new stuff, new people, trying this and trying that, but if you go back and read THE manual you will find out how this thing is supposed to operate.

Get wisdom, get understanding, as you walk with God which can be found in His Word.

What would you like to understand more of?

A Beautiful Rain - Devotions

rainAs I am looking out my bedroom window, I see trees with rain drops on them.  I see puddles of water out on the lawn and in the distant street.  I remember as a kid, I would love jumping in those rain puddles.  Seeing how high I can get the water to go up or how far out it would hit my sister. I was such the trouble-maker. It seems the rainy forecast has kept our family inside for today.

Rain reminds me of dry places needing a refreshing drink of water.  It reminds me of the necessity of rain when we are waiting for things to grow.  Rain reminds me of washing away the old so that it can become brand new again.

What do you need “Rain” for?

Is it a need of the floodgates of heaven opening and letting it rain on you or maybe you just need a cool drink of His Word to refresh those dry areas in your life.

Whatever need you may have or strength to continue anew, know that He is right there with you.

Psalm 72:6 - May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth!

Let Him refresh you. Let Him make you new.

Washing away the dirt, the ugliness of our lives.

Knowing that where we were is not where we are.

1 John 4:17 - And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the Day of Judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.

He Wants To Use You Too.

This morning as I was finishing up my devotional, I began to read the book of Ruth.  If you have never read it, you need to. It’s an incredible story about hope, faith and a legacy that led to a Redeemer. I wrote on my Facebook status that Ruth reminds me that God wants to use us too…let Him!  Can you imagine what this world would be like if every Christian let God use them. No questions of how or why, just obedience.

Something resonated with me this morning that although Ruth didn’t know her future and what it would bring to the world, she never tried to short-cut to the answer.  She walked in obedience to Naomi, her mother-in-law, and to Boaz.

I had to ask myself that question, do I short-cut what God is trying to do in me?

I find myself with an attitude of clarity and vision this morning; knowing that God is in control of it all. He knows my future.  He knows my legacy.  He knows my tomorrows.

I can rest in that.

Ruth is such a perfect example of this.  She didn’t know her tomorrows.  She didn’t know that her future would entail lineage to Jesus.  She was completely unaware of her purpose in life. But she had a God that showed love, redemption and hope.  He has this for you too.

Do you ever find yourself wanting to help God out a little or “short-cut” to the answer?

Are Your Dreams Delayed? (Part Three)

To continue from Part II Even if your circumstances contradict your purpose, your purpose will always prevail. It's the opposition that shows us that God is working.

Romans 8:28 – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

An example of this is Eve.  The Lord promised her a seed. (Gen. 3:15What she thought to be the promise were real problems. Her son Cain was jealous of his brother Abel and in one swoop all of Eve’s dreams lay dead in the ground when Cain killed Abel.  Here she was suppose to be the mother of all living and yet all she has raised is a corpse and a murderer.

Aaahhh, but then there came Seth, which means substitute.  Eve began to realize God’s plan was still in motion.  His plan never changed. Eve called her son Seth for she understood if God made a promise, He will find a way to keep it even if it means appointing a substitute.

Your blessing may not come the way you wanted or through the person you wanted. But know that if God said it then rest assured, it may be delayed, but it cannot be denied!

Philippians 1:6 - being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Are Your Dreams Delayed? (Part Two)

(To continue with our asking the question our are dreams delayed part I) Some things we are not meant to change…but to survive!

We need to be like a tree!  See when a tree’s roots are planted, the sap and substance are underground and although the seasons come and the leaves fall, the root never dies.  In spring it will flourish NEW fruit.

Aristotle said “Patience is a tree whose root is bitter but its fruit is sweet”.  Our temporary circumstances don’t always require action.  It may just require prayer which brings patience.  And with patience we gain trust.

Habukkuk 3:3 - For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.

Our struggle is waiting for the appointment we have with destiny!

God is a God of order.  He does everything by appointment.  He has a set appointment to bring to pass His promise in our lives.

Definition of Appointment – a meeting already set up

Through the tough times (and some of you have had some tough ones!) and in the waiting process, we know God has a plan of escape or destiny.  That’s our comfort!

Philippians 4:7 - And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Just know that nothing the enemy tries will change the plan of God for our lives!

To be continued…

Are Your Dreams Delayed?

It’s almost 2011!! Can you believe it?!? This is the time of year we begin to look at our list of goals and answered prayers and begin crossing out all that has been accomplished.  For some that can mean weight loss, selling your home, debts canceled or the birth of a child. For others it can mean disappointment and failure to accomplish everything you set out to do in 2010.

Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. - Habukkuk 2:2

For the next few days I want to discuss with you those dreams that you had in 2010 and how they might just be delayed but not denied!

We will always have seasons of struggles and testing.  There are going to be times when everything we attempt to do will seem to go wrong. But somehow we need to realize there is a purpose for these temporary inconveniences.  Isn’t it amazing though that during these times these inconveniences destroy our pride in our own ability and reinforce our dependency on the sufficiency of God!

II Corinthians 4:17 says, “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all”.

Some things we are just not meant to change…but to survive!

Make Your Spiritual Muscles Sore

Sore Muscles

For the last 2 months, every Tuesday and Thursday I get up at 5:30am to meet a wonderful group of women to exercise.  Boy, those first few days and weeks I was so sore.  I couldn’t move.  Once my body adjusted and became accustomed to this routine, there was an energy that I had.  It’s almost as though my body began craving more.  Could I do 3, 4, 5 days of exercise into my week?  So that’s what I’m going to do.  I’m going to add on my off days running and walking.  I’m going to listen to what my body wants.

Spiritual Muscles

How many of us do this spiritually?  Do you make it a daily routine to read the Word or does the Bible stay in the car all week only to come out on Sundays (Ouch!)? Just as we may exercise our body, we need to exercise our mind (Philippians 2:5) Read, read, read!  We have to become aware of all that God has for us, all that He has done for you and me.   How can you do that?  Exercise your mind everyday in His Word.

When you are struggling with a friend or family - Romans 8:31 – “If God be for me, who can be against me?”

Stressing out about finances – Philippians 4:6-7 – “Don’t be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding , will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Wanting to give up – James 1:2-4 – “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Mom’s, did you know that there is a scripture that says “Like mother, like daughter”?  Look it up Ezekiel 16:44.  But you have to read the whole chapter to understand if this is something good that was spoken or not.

My point is this even as we exercise our bodies or eat right; we have to do the same for our spirit.  We have to feed it.  And guess what?  Once we begin to feed it, it begins to grow and mature into all that God has called you and me to do!

Weekly Devotions - Friendships

Romans 12:15

"Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep."

For the last year I've been praying for new friendships.  You see we moved a couple of years ago 40 miles north of where we used to live.  Well, 40 miles north was a LONG way for my friends.  It seemed as though no one was coming over like they used to.  I had to plan my days south if I wanted to see my friends.  I knew things had to change.  As we began searching for a church closer to home, I would begin to cry at night or yell at my kids or husband.

Why? Because I felt alone.

I knew I had God. I knew Proverbs 18:24 "A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."  Jesus was my friend.  But as a woman that needs all 20,000 words per day to be spoken.  A woman that enjoys going to lunches and weekends with girlfriends; I needed more.

In the last two years, God showed me Him.  What true friendships are.  Rejoicing in the best times and weeping in the hardest.  He was that for me.  He was there when I rejoiced with my friends through babies, anniversaries, birthdays and weekends.  But, He was there in the weeping too!  At times it was only Him and I.  But you know what...that's what He wanted.

Now I can say we found our church and He has blessed me with not just one or two friends but with an abundance.  I adore these women.  Their encouragement, their love, and their friendships.

If you struggle with true friendship or finding friendship, I encourage you to seek God first.  Seek His friendship.  Put Him first in your conversations and begin to see doors open that you never imagined.
